Search Keywords

"Near me" searches increased 100% YOY (80% on a smartphone). Searchers want information immediately

To start, local businesses should focus on local keywords
such as cities, states, zip codes, landmarks, intersections,
etc. Consider the terms searchers would use when
navigating the local community and try to optimize them.
These keywords are often more expensive, yet they typically
offer high conversions for local businesses.

It is not enough to just use a keyword in an ad campaign.
You must also have a certain match type: broad match,
broad match modifer, phrase match, or exact match. Broad
match offers the most volume, while exact match provides
the most control. Finding the match type will help your ads
show up for appropriate searches, while remain left out of
less relevant searches.

This is no different with pay per call marketing. Your PPC campaigns need to be focused on a niche, long tail or promoted with a "hook" or "angle".

However, when promoting a pay per call campaign on mobile search, it's difficult to utilize long-tail keywords, since many mobile users won't enter more than 2-4 keyword searches.

  1. Add localized keywords to your campaign, "plumber seattle", "home security in nyc", "lawyer near los angeles", etc.

  2. Use suffixes and pre-fixes on broader, high volume, more expensive search terms, like "car insurance help", "find car insurance", "new car car insurance", "car insurance after accident".

The automotive industry, in particular, has been drastically affected by these searches. In the past year, search interest for “car dealerships near me” has doubled. According to Google, interest in dealer phone numbers from these searches has risen nearly 80% year over year. It’s important for marketers at both the dealer level and at the OEM tier to take advantage of this opportunity, provide phone numbers, and enable customers to easily call them.
